Al-Qudah Residence (Aswan)

Al-Qudah Residence is one of the buildings in which context played a crucial role. Separated from Aswan’s Nile Corniche by one street, the project was both exciting and challenging. The design process represented an opportunity for our team to explore stylistic revivalism by looking for inspirations from Egypt’s colonial architecture that existed in the famous city. The design displayed a sensitive and delicate approach in using materials, colors, and motifs from the colonial style while maintaining a sense of modernity in the building’s extruding masses and forms. An important programmatic element was to incorporate small terraces that allowed residents to enjoy the active yet tranquil streets of Aswan.
